Nineteen police officers from across the region received a holiday treat when officials of the Regional Security System recently visited them at the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Headquarters where they are currently based.
The troops, originating from Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada, were deployed to St. Kitts and Nevis to assist with the recent spike in crime and violence there.
Executive Director of the RSS, Captain (N) Errington Shurland, commended the officers on their efforts and assured them that their contribution had been recognized and was indeed valuable to the exercise.
“Your sacrifice has contributed to the peace and stability of the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis and it is a sacrifice that each and every one does not put up their hand and volunteer to do, but recognize that that sacrifice is a contribution to our strength. There is strength through unity, and that is the motto of the Regional Security System,” he asserted.
The operation which commenced on October 10 this year, has seen a reduction in the incidences of crime on the island, and officers are scheduled to conclude their duties on January 7, 2019.
“You have contributed in no small way to that peace and security. I want to reassure you that your contribution is what the region requires. It is this type of effort and contribution that allows us as a region to be as peaceful and as secure as we are,” the RSS head maintained.
During the brief ceremony, other top officials from the islands represented, echoed the sentiments of Commander Shurland. They were Commissioner of Police, Royal Police Force, Antigua and Barbuda, Mr. Atlee Rodney; Commissioner of Police, Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Mr. Colin John; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Royal Barbados Police Force, Mr. Sylvester Louis; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Royal Grenada Police Force, Mr. John Charles; and Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Operations, St. Christopher and Nevis, Mr. Adolph Adams.
